Tampax tampons do not expire, but they do have a shelf life. Tampax Radiant and Compact Radiant have a 3-year shelf life, while all other Tampax tampons have a 5-year shelf life when stored properly.

What is the shelf life of Tampax tampons?

Tampax Radiant and Tampax Compact Radiant tampons have a 3-year shelf life due to their resealable wrapper. All other Tampax tampons, such as Tampax Pearl, Tampax Compact Pearl, and Tampax Cardboard, have a 5-year shelf life.

Why is there no expiration date on Tampax tampon boxes in the US?

Packaging and labeling rules vary by country. Some regions require a printed expiration date, but in the US, Tampax products do not display one. Tampax tampons are designed to be good for five years (or three for Radiant and Compact Radiant) from when they were made.

How should tampons be stored?

Tampons should be stored in a cool, dry place. If improperly stored, they may not function as intended. Properly stored, undamaged tampons are likely good throughout their shelf life.

Let's Clear Up the Mystery!

Ever found an old box of tampons tucked away and wondered, "Are these still good?" It's a super common question, and we're here to give you the real talk about tampon expiration dates. First things first, let's put your mind at ease: Tampax tampons are designed with your safety and comfort as our top priority. We work hard to make sure every single tampon is high-quality and ready to help you feel confident, no matter what your period throws at you. Now, about that "expiration" question... It's a little tricky, but we're here to explain it clearly!

Tampax Tampons do not expire; however, they do have a shelf life.

Shelf life is the time period during which a product is expected to meet our high standards for quality when stored properly. This does not mean it will only last for that amount of time, but that we know it will work as intended for that period of time. The shelf life of tampons varies:

Tampax Radiant and Tampax Compact Radiant tampons: 3 years (because of the resealable wrapper)
All other Tampax tampons (e.g. Tampax Pearl, Tampax Compact Pearl, Tampax Cardboard): 5 years

Tampons should be stored in a cool dry place. If improperly stored, it may not function as intended.

So why no expiration date?

Packaging and labeling rules, including use of the “expiration date” term, vary from country to country! In some places, like parts of Europe or Greater China, companies are required to print an expiration date on tampon boxes. But in other places, like the US, you won't see an expiration date printed on our Tampax products. Tampax tampons are designed to be good for five years (or 3 years for Tampax Radiant & Tampax Compact Radiant) from when they were made. That's a super long time – half a decade of period protection! So, don't worry about buying a supply and not being able to use them up. Five years is lots of time to use them – especially when you're using them monthly.

The main takeaway?

Don't stress too much about finding an old box! If your tampons have been stored properly (in a clean, dry place) and aren't obviously damaged, they're likely good to go for that five-year (or 3 years for Tampax Radiant & Tampax Compact Radiant) shelf life. You can always call the phone number printed on the box to see when your product was made, and for any questions on product quality. We have a team of experts who can help! We know it can be a little confusing with all the different "sell by," "use by," and "best by" dates you see on other products.
