Ever found an old box of tampons tucked away and wondered, "Are these still good?" It's a super common question, and we're here to give you the real talk about tampon expiration dates. First things first, let's put your mind at ease: Tampax tampons are designed with your safety and comfort as our top priority. We work hard to make sure every single tampon is high-quality and ready to help you feel confident, no matter what your period throws at you. Now, about that "expiration" question... It's a little tricky, but we're here to explain it clearly!
Shelf life is the time period during which a product is expected to meet our high standards for quality when stored properly. This does not mean it will only last for that amount of time, but that we know it will work as intended for that period of time. The shelf life of tampons varies:
Tampons should be stored in a cool dry place. If improperly stored, it may not function as intended.
Packaging and labeling rules, including use of the “expiration date” term, vary from country to country! In some places, like parts of Europe or Greater China, companies are required to print an expiration date on tampon boxes. But in other places, like the US, you won't see an expiration date printed on our Tampax products. Tampax tampons are designed to be good for five years (or 3 years for Tampax Radiant & Tampax Compact Radiant) from when they were made. That's a super long time – half a decade of period protection! So, don't worry about buying a supply and not being able to use them up. Five years is lots of time to use them – especially when you're using them monthly.
Don't stress too much about finding an old box! If your tampons have been stored properly (in a clean, dry place) and aren't obviously damaged, they're likely good to go for that five-year (or 3 years for Tampax Radiant & Tampax Compact Radiant) shelf life.
