Find the best tampon and absorbency level for you and your flow
If you’ve ever wandered down the feminine hygiene aisle at your local drugstore, you’ve probably noticed there are TONS of options when it comes to pads and tampons.
With tampons, it’s especially important to pick the level of absorbency that’s best for you and your flow. Tampax has a product for every absorbency: Light, Regular, Super, Super Plus or Ultra. So, how do you choose?
If you’re just trying tampons for the first time, you want to start with the lightest or lowest level of absorbency. Tampax Pearl Active Lites are one of the best tampon options - their MotionFit Protection moves with you for leak-free workouts on your period. Additionally, the Smooth Removal Layer gives you amazing comfort, even on the lightest days of your period.
For the best protection, you’ll want to use the lowest absorbency necessary for your flow. A lot of women experience a heavier flow in the beginning of their period and then it gets lighter toward the end. So you might want to think about switching between different absorbencies. So, on days 1 and 2 you might use a higher absorbency tampon like Regular or Super, for extra protection, and then switch to Light absorbency toward the end.
No matter which absorbency you’re using, a tampon should never be worn for more than 8 hours. When it’s time to switch tampons, it’s helpful to check for these two things:
- Is there still a lot of white left on the tampon? If so, you should consider lowering your absorbency.
- Have you bled through the string and/or onto your undies? If so, you should consider a higher absorbency.
To better understand your flow and cycle, try using a period tracker like the Tampax Period Tracker. It’ll let you know when your period is coming so you can be more aware of your period symptoms. It’ll also help you better understand the length of your cycle. Don’t be alarmed if you have irregular periods at first, it’s totally normal. After a few months, you’ll see a pattern start to form.
Still not sure which is the best tampon for you? Check out the Tampax multi-pack. It has different absorbencies all in one box, so you can try different levels and figure out which are best for you.
