## How Does Tampax Conduct Its Research?

At Tampax, hundreds of engineers, chemists, biologists, and safety scientists evaluate every ingredient throughout the discovery, design, and development of our products.

We are obsessed with ingredient safety and are continuously studying new scientific literature, reviewing consumer comments and connecting with experts to remain on top of the science.

Did you know that P&G Fem Care has over 200 engineers, chemists, biologists and safety scientists that focus just on period products?

We test product performance by evaluating product usage in real life situations, with real people on their periods.

We also assess performance and absorbency by using standardized period blood substitutes with the similar properties to menses.

### Step #3:

### 1940s
#### Tampax University Is Now in Session
World War II pushes more women into the workforce, and the need for reliable, limitless period protection becomes a driving force in the popularity of tampons. Tampax responds by creating our own formal education program to teach women about tampons and the best way to use them.
In 1941 Tampax established the company’s first educational department. The women educators became known as the ‘Tampax Ladies,’ traveling to colleges and schools, as well as trade shows and conventions.
Also in 1941, at the New Brunswick Plant, Tampax produced cotton bandages and surgical dressings for the U.S. military alongside the tampon assembly lines.

### 2012
#### Even More Convenient
Based on the popularity of Pearl, Tampax continued to evolve and innovate, introducing new technology and variations. We teamed up with Always to create Radiant, a collection of tampons, liners, and pads. The new Tampax Radiant packaging introduced the first resealable wrapper for quick and easy disposal of the applicator — no more of that awkward wrapping it up in toilet paper nonsense.

### 2015
#### Tampons Get Tinier
Next up was a full-sized tampon in a pocket-sized applicator for on the go protection. We’re talking fits in a micro bag, or even your wallet.

Tampax 2015

### 2020
#### The Future Is Limitless
Tampax recommits to making period conversations as normal as periods themselves, so we all can feel educated, empowered, and limitless every day of the month.

## What's the Deal with Heavy Metals and Tampons?

Almost everything in the world has a safe and an unsafe level or limit - including things like water!

For example, the trace amount of metals that could be found in a tampon is very small – not unlike the low amounts found in the food and water you consume every day.

OEKO-TEX®, a globally recognized independent research and test institute, granted Tampax tampons the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. This means that every component of the product was tested for up to 1,000 harmful substances, including heavy metals, and succeeded in meeting the stringent safety criteria.
