There is no set age for tampon use! If you've started your period, you can consider using tampons when you feel ready and understand how to insert, wear, change, and remove them safely. Some people try tampons soon after their first period. Others prefer pads for a while before trying tampons. Both choices are okay! The right time to use a tampon is whenever you feel comfortable.
You can use tampons once you've started menstruating, but many people choose pads at first because they're easy to see and change while learning their flow! If you want to try tampons, start on a heavier-flow day because a heavier flow can make the tampon easier and more comfortable to insert.
Take a deep breath and relax... It's much easier to insert a tampon when your muscles are relaxed! People insert tampons in different positions-some sit, some squat, and some stand. Try the position that feels most comfortable for you!
Start with the lowest absorbency that meets your flow. Your flow can change throughout your period, so you may need different absorbencies on different days. If the tampon leaks in just a few hours, go up! f it feels dry or uncomfortable to remove, go down!
If you're unsure where the tampon goes, if insertion is painful, or if you can't remove a tampon, ask a trusted adult or healthcare professional for help. There's no need to feel embarrassed-this is new for many people, and learning takes practice!
Is there a set age to use tampons? No! You can consider tampons after your period starts, when you feel ready.
Can I use a tampon for my first period? Yes! But pads are also okay while you're learning your flow.
What should beginners know first? Start with the lowest absorbency that meets your flow, relax your muscles, and change your tampon every 4-8 hours.
